The passage of Senate Bill 6 taught all of us in public education in Florida, the person who sits in the governors seat can really make a difference in our everyday work lives. Had Bill McCollum been governor when Senate Bill 6 had passed you can be sure it would not have been vetoed and would be the law of Florida today. In fact here is what candidate McCollum had to say about Senate Bill 6:
"I am deeply disappointed Governor Crist succumbed to the pressure from Democrat Alex Sink and the unions by putting bureaucracy above the best in-terest of our children and teachers.
The veto of Senate Bill 6 is a signifi-cant setback to our strides in education reform, which will limit Floridas ability to compete on the world stage. We need to reward teachers and give the tools to succeed, as was proposed in the legislation.
As Governor, I will lead the charge to enact reforms that will ensure our children and teachers are positioned to be the very best they can be."
His own words say best what we could expect from him if he were ever elected governor. Remember that when you go to the ballot box.
What about the proposed cuts in our retirement benefits? Would anyone want their retirement bene-fits being dependent on Bill McCollum vetoing the proposed cuts in them? Who sits in that governors chair really does matter in your life.
